Initial Visit

Your first visit with us will consist of a consultation. Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit to our office;

  • Referral note and any other information such as x-ray films (if they have been given to you). It is very helpful to have all appropriate information from your referring doctor. This will significantly reduce delays in your treatment. Please note that if the films or images provided are not diagnostic or current, additional images may be taken at our clinic.
  • A list of any medications you are presently taking as well as any allergies. We may require that certain medical tests or evaluations be performed prior to your surgery.
  • All relevant insurance information.
  • Current Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card number.

All patients under the age of 18 are strongly encouraged to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

During your consultation, we will, with the aid of the images and other studies, as well as clinical examination, arrive at a diagnosis of your condition. The treatment options will be discussed with you and a plan will be formulated. This will include the setting for your treatment (office vs. hospital) as well as your anesthetic options (local, sedation, or general anesthesia). Pre- and post-operative information will be reviewed.

Normally we would like you to have some time to consider your treatment options and arrange your activities accordingly. You are always welcome to call us back or e-mail us to clarify any questions or concerns.

On certain occasions, same-day treatment may be provided. In these cases, you may be asked to be escorted to and from our office with a responsible adult. If sedation is planned, you must have nothing to eat or drink from the midnight prior to your appointment.
